Conquering the Storm

Conquering the Storm

Storms of life come and go. Whether you realize it or not, which I am sure you do, you have been facing storms for the last year and a half. A storm is no respecter of person. It doesn’t matter if you are a follower of Christ or not, you will face storms in your life. We all do! The difference is, we as children of God get to choose whether we will conquer the storm or the storm will conquer us.

A storm is anything that stands in the way of your obedience to the will of God for your life. It is meant to make things more difficult, push you off your course, distract you, dismantle your faith and ultimately to destroy you.

The Storms of Life are conquered by Faith.

Facing a storm is not an indication of whether you are living by faith. Your faith determines your outcome from the storm.

Faith is not a merely mental agreement with the word of God nor is it merely a mental toughness. Faith flows from the heart not the head.

Opening Text:

Mark 4:35-41; Matthew 8:23-27; Luke 8:22-35

Key Elements of this Passage

– Let us go to the other side.

– Jesus was in their boat.

– Jesus had a peace on the inside before He spoke peace to the outside (asleep in the middle of the storm).

– Where is your faith?

Faith believes in the heart first, then it speaks with authority.

– Romans 10:9-10

By Faith we Overcome

– 1 John 5:4

Faith in the Name of Jesus

– Mark 16:17 (NKJV)

17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

– Acts 3:16 (MSG)

16 Faith in Jesus’ name put this man, whose condition you know so well, on his feet—yes, faith and nothing but faith put this man healed and whole right before your eyes.

Faith in Jesus precedes the authority of the Name of Jesus.

In Order to exercise authority through His Name, you must have faith in His Name. Having faith in His name comes from knowing the character of the one who’s name it is.

4 Truths About the Character of Jesus

Jesus Cares

1 Peter 5:7; Matthew 6:25-34; Like 12:22-31

Jesus is Willing

Matthew 8:1-7; Mark 1:40-45; Luke 5:12-16

Jesus is Faithful

Hebrews 10:23; 1 Thessalonians 5:24; Revelation 19:11

Jesus cares not only about you but He cares for you! He has given you His Word, His Spirit and His Name to exercise authority in and over every storm you will face in life. Through His death, burial and resurrection He has conquered the enemy. He has provided for us everything we need to conquer every storm (2 Peter 1:2-4). It is up to us to grab hold of it by faith and walk in it.
