Small Group Questions

What Do You Think?

What struck a chord with you from Sunday’s service?

The Story of Your Life.

  1. The month of February is often known as being the month of “love.” Share about a meaningful act of love that someone did for you that made you feel special.
  2. On Sunday, Pastor Kyle referred to Gary Chapman’s book called “The Five Love Languages.” It’s worth adding to your list if you haven’t read it. The five love languages outlined are: acts of service, words of affirmation, physical touch, receiving gifts, and quality time. Which of those five most closely describes your “love language”?

Digging Deeper in God’s Word.

  1. On Sunday, Pastor Kyle mentioned that God’s love language is “obedience.” In relationships, obedience often looks like self-sacrifice for others. One place we see this very clearly is in John 15:8-17. Read it together and answer the following prompts/questions.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap the main tenets of the passage.
    2. What does this tell us about God/relationships?
    3. How do Jesus’ words in this passage differ from relationship advice in today’s culture?
    4. Is there anything you need to do differently after having read and discussed this?
  2. Now re-read 1 Corinthians 13 in its entirety as a group. Then answer the following prompts/questions.
    1. Have a few members of the group recap the main tenets of the passage.
    2. What does this tell us about God/relationships?
    3. How do Jesus’ words in this passage differ from relationship advice in the culture?
    4. Is there anything you need to do differently after having read and discussed this?
  3. The following verses each speak to how to love God and to love one another. Read them one at a time and share an insight about loving God or loving people.
    1. Job 6:14.
    2. Job 42:10.
    3. Psalm 133:1.
    4. Proverbs 17:9.
    5. Colossians 3:12-14.
    6. 1 Peter 4:8-10.

Personal reflection and application.

  1. Have everyone share one thing someone else mentioned during this discussion that stood out to you.
  2. Take time to pray for one another.
