DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- Go around the room: What’s your prayer life like? What do you say? Do you ever say the same thing?
- Jesus teaches us to pray The Lord’s Prayer when we pray. Read Luke 11:1-4. While there are lots of different prayers in the Bible, why do you think Jesus encourages His followers to pray this way?
- Read Luke 5:16. For Jesus, prayer was not just a weekly part of the temple service, it was a regular part of His life. Why do you think Jesus spent so much time in prayer?
- Has prayer ever been a time of refreshment/restoration for you? Can you talk about that experience?
- Has prayer ever been a time of direction, pointing you in what to do? Can you talk about that experience?
- Put on some light music. Open your Bible to Matthew 6:9-13. Journal your own version of the Lord’s prayer to God, but make it personal. Take the concepts of the Lord’s prayer, but write your own prayer in your own words to God.
- For example: Instead of writing “Our Father who art in Heaven,”
- you could write something like “Father, it’s hard for me to think of you as my dad and me as your son, but that’s who you are. You raised me. You’ve shown me you love me. I remember when …”
- Partner up. You don’t have to share, but consider sharing your personalized Lord’s Prayer with your partner. Then pray for each other.
