MESSAGE 7: THE #1 PROBLEM IN THE CHURCH TODAY

LOMBARD BIBLE CHURCH

SEPTEMBER 19, 2021

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. Share a problem from this past week that you struggled with. What made it frustrating?
  2. Jesus and the Pharisees disagree on what the biggest problem is in the church of His day. Read Mark 7:1-23. What did you hear from the Scripture? What’s your takeaway?
  3. In Mark 7:8, Jesus accuses the religious leaders of holding too tightly to church traditions. Are there church traditions today that people make too big of a deal about? What are some examples?
  4. In Mark 7:23, Jesus closes this section of Scripture by clarifying what really makes us unclean/defiled before God. The real number #1 problem in the church is the sin that comes out of our own hearts.  Look at Jesus’ list of sins in Mark 7:21-22. Why do you think Jesus takes His time to list 13 different sins? Do you see yourself somewhere in this list? What point is Jesus trying to make?
  5. Jesus offers to forgive any of us if we confess our sins (1 John 1:9) & acknowledge Jesus as Lord & Savior (Romans 10:9-13). Have you seen or heard of someone’s life “turning around” when they found forgiveness in Jesus? Share the story!
  6. Pray for one another.
