Today’s Focal Passage: Titus 2:1-8

-The Gospel works to change us from the .

-“They claim to know but by their they deny him…” Titus 1:16

“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age.” Titus 1:11

Titus 2:1-9

“Cretans are liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons’ Titus 1:12

– Who we are in is secret is who we are.

Older Men are to be:

-‘Sober’& ‘temperate’- both carry the idea of having in matters of physical appetites & desires.

-‘Reverent’, ‘sound in faith and in love’- A man who has a love for God & for the people around Him.

The word ‘sound’- means . (i.e. emotionally, spiritually, mentally)

-Patience means- stay strong during trials, to not .

Older Women are to be:

“the older women likewise, are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things”… Titus 2:3

– ‘Reverent’- outward expression of inner .

– This language is used to describes a woman who sees her life as to God.

Younger Women are to be:

“…train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that word of God may not be blasphemed.” Titus 2:4

– ‘Discreet & chaste’- are coupled together to mean and pure in matters of sexuality, thought & action.

– ‘Homemaker & kind’ go together as well, meaning women are to be the of their home and not

– ‘Obedient’, means to to.

Younger Men are to be:

“How can a young man keep His way pure? By living according to your word.”

-Sober-
