What’s Your Dad like?

As a “Preacher’s Kid” you become accustomed to people having varied views of your parent. Perhaps your Dad had similar expectations placed on him because of his occupation. If he was a mechanic, did everyone expect him to have a great working car? If he was a carpenter, did people expect you to live in a grandiose house? (consider: teacher, lawyer, doctor, police officer, businessman etc)
Was there pressure to live up to your Father’s example? In what way(s)
In John chapter 17 in the Message Bible, Jesus says: “Righteous Father, the world has never known you, But I have known you, and these disciples know that you sent me on this mission. 26 I have made your very being known to them-Who you are and what you do-And continue to make it known, So that your love for me might be in them exactly as I am in them”. Jesus is praying for his disciples, just before He goes to the cross. Why is this significant?
During His earthly life, Jesus was answering the question “What is the like?”. List some examples Jesus used to answer that question (ie. parables, stories or teachings)
Read John 14:1-11 – How did Jesus respond to Philip’s statement? Jesus says His display His relationship with the Father? In what way can the miraculous show God’s presence and authority?
In John 10:30 Jesus says, “I and the Father are “. How would you explain this statement?
If someone has been adopted into a family, they are given legal rights, a new name, relationship with a family and more. How does this apply to Believers’ relationship with God through Jesus Christ? (See Ephesians 1:5; John 1:12-13; Rom. 8:15)
Is there an “expectation” to respond to the blessing of being a child of God, by representing Him to the world? How do we do that? Start by reading Matt. 6:9-13. What is the first declaration? “
Write about your Dad (or the Father Figure) describing how his life impacted your choices (hobbies, traditions, special abilities, employment…)Has this impacted your views about God as “Our Father”?
