Ephesians Week 1

July 7, 2021

Pastors Clint and Claire Jett

Wednesday, 7/7/21

Ephesians was probably designed to be a circular letter, meaning, Paul wrote it to be circulated among all the churches. This letter seems to be designed so that any church could benefit from it.

Paul unfolds the message of the mystery of Christ as representing mankind. He is absolutely passionate in his prayers and desires for everyone to see how completely associated they are in Christ.

Everything culminates in Christ! He sees heaven not as a distant goal for us to strive towards, but how completely God has already lavished upon us every blessing heaven has in Christ. We are co-raised and co-seated together with Christ in heavenly places to begin with! Long before anyone but God believed it, we were made alive together with Christ.

Ephesus: A center for pagan worship – Paul had lived there for several years while on his third journey. He had come to know the Ephesian Christians well. He writes to them to encourage them and help them understand the nature of the church and how it should function.

– He wrote this letter while a prisoner in Rome. (Show pic on slide.)

1. Whatever happens in the realm (where we live) originates in the realm.

A. Believers are present in two places at the same time. We are physically located on earth but operate from heavenly places. God wants our position in the heavenly realm to dictate our activity on earth.

B. God created us for himself, for his happiness. He has chosen us to “be holy and without fault” so that the church will bring him pleasure.

2. Man is free to to accept Christ as Savior and man is equally given the choice to His free gift of grace and unconditional love.

3. God chose to establish a group of people whose purpose is to and His holy character in a sinful world.

4. The Father has not given or , but He has given lavishly.

5. God’s blueprint intention is on in us. Everything He accomplishes is inspired by the energy and intent of his affection.

6. The Holy Spirit is a heavenly given in anticipation of eternal life. He is a foretaste of what is ahead.

A. Contracts and agreements can be broken among people. But this is not the case with God. We have been purchased for God with the blood of Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit is his down payment for us. A down payment is a pledge that confidently assures that our heavenly inheritance stands fast forever.

B. The Holy Spirit is our tangible link to the inheritance that was ransomed and preserved for us.

7. God His children to trust Him and all what He has written in His word.

Eph 1:16-20

Paul’s prayer for them – I Ask God:

-to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.

-that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. NLT
