Learning to Really Love
How to Love Like Jesus:
Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from Godand was returning to God;so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him. – John 13:3-5
A wife might wash her husband’s feet, a children their father, a disciple their master. But a master would wash their servant’s feet.
We need to move from ‘I-It’ to ‘I-’
He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”
Jesus replied,“You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”
“No,” said Peter, “you shall never wash my feet.
Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with me.”” John 13:6-8
If Peter did not want his feet washed, he was not accepting what Jesus has himself to come to earth to do. Peter would have no part of Jesus’ kingdom.
Enter Another’s World
We serve a God who us because He became human, just like us.
– Give thought to your words and don’t simply blurt them out. Take the other person’s feelings into consideration.
Honestly – Say what you truly think and feel rather than softpedaling or distorting the truth.
– Communicate directly. Rather than being vague or dropping hints, be clear.
In a timely fashion – Consider the moment. You understand that some moments are better than others for certain conversations.
Jesus answered, “Those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet; their whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you.”For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean. – John 13:9-11
By believing in Jesus, our bodies have been washed clean. By our sins, they are washed away by blood of Jesus. Our feet are now clean.
Hold On to Your World
When his familyheard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.” – Mark 3:21
But Jesus was in his Father’s love, both in himself and in what he had been given to do. He held on to himself as he loved those around him.
The degree to which you love and yourself is the degree to which you will be able to love and value others.
Let us Learn to Really Love
“My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Matthew 13:33-35
As Jesus was going away soon, Jesus gives them this new commandment to follow the example he had set: Love as I .
