The Remnant

October 11, 2020

Romans 11:2-5

Jeremiah 23:3–4

God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying, “LORD, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life”? But what does the divine response say to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”  Romans 11:2-5

Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

22 Then Elijah said to them, “I am the only one of the Lord’s prophets left, but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets.  1 Kings 18:22

God is saying,

Romans 11:5   So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.

A remnant is a that has remained.

It comes from the root

God’s right to choose a remnant according to grace.

And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work. What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks;but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded. Just as it is written: “God has given them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see and ears that they should not hear, to this very day.”

And David says: “Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a recompense to them. Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see, and bow down their back always.” The people were overcome by a spirit of stupor, or sleepiness, and we’re not given eyes to see and ears to hear. God was the one who kept them from understanding.  Rom 11:6-10

Paul made clear in Romans 9:18 that God retains the right to give or withhold understanding, to soften or harden hearts, as He sees fit and for His greater purposes.

Grace definition:

Those who stay on course and remain faithful will experience God’s richer blessings.

Jeremiah 23:3–4 says,

“But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking,” says the LORD.

God gives richer blessings to these who remain faithful (the remnant).

What are the blessings for those who remain faithful?”

  • They will have
  • They will .
  • They will
  • They will .

These are the rich blessings you will receive if you stay faithful, committed, and obedient.

Judah City Church, stay on track, hold course, stay steady, and remain faithful. Be a part of the remnant. Be the Church.
