Possessing a killer Instinct

August 9, 2020

1 Samuel 17:48, the Bible tells us, “As Goliath moved closer to attack, David quickly ran out to meet him.”

As soon as the Israelite army saw him, they began to run away in fright.” 1 Samuel 17:24 (NLT)

What kind of a giant are you facing?

David had a killer instinct!

David’s killer instinct in 1 Samuel 17:51, “Then David ran over and pulled Goliath’s sword from its sheath.  David used it to kill him and cut off his head. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they turned and ran.”

David wasn’t content with just knocking the giant down. He didn’t even stop to celebrate. He put an end to the giant so he would never have to face him again!

The same is true in our lives. It’s time to slay the giant you’re facing. You may face other giants in your life, but you won’t have to face the same one ever again!

He even told Goliath, “This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and He will give all of you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:46-47 (NIV)

Your battle is the Lord’s! Give it over to Him and face your giant in faith that God is with you! The victory you gain will take you to a whole new level and put God’s glory on display for a watching world to see!

Three steps to slaying your giant!

If you want to be a giant killer like David, you have to do what David did. Before he ever got out on the battlefield with Goliath,

In the with God.

Psalm 91, He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty… He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. Psalm 91:1;15 (NKJV)

Giant-killing faith begins in the secret place by obeying God in the small things.

David said,The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!’ Saul finally consented. “All right, go ahead“ he said. “And may the Lord be with you!“ 1 Samuel 17:37 (NLT)

It was in the secret place where David killed a lion and a bear, and no one was there to see it!

Jesus said, if we are faithful in handling small things, we would be given greater responsibilities in Matthew 25:23.

 Ignore the

When you have giant-killing faith you will be criticized, but that criticism also builds your faith.

verse 28, ”But when David’s oldest brother, Eliab, heard David talking like that, he was angry. ‘What are you doing around here, anyway?’ he demanded. ‘What about the sheep you’re supposed to be taking care of? I know what a cocky brat you are; you just want to see the battle!”‘

Focus on your purpose from God, not your critics. Focus on the real giant that’s ahead of you, not your critics,

Have a God Powered

Well I want you to see it starts in secret, it crashes through criticism but it’s powered by perspective.

Goliath, when he sees this young boy coming toward him with a sling. He’s so angry, and he curses David, and he says, ”I’m going to tear you apart limb from limb and feed your body to the birds.”

Verse 45,”David replied to the Philistine, ‘You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies-the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel! And everyone assembled here will know that the Lord rescues his people, but not with sword and spear. This is the Lord’s battle, and he will give you to us!”’

How do you know if you have a ground-level perspective? You complain, you gripe. Giants  look huge. Your problems are overwhelming.

David saw from a God-level perspective. He saw the opportunity and he seized the opportunity.

You can’tyour giant until you your giant

That’s the breakthrough. The barrier is the breakthrough. The problem is the purpose, but you’ve got to see it to seize it.

Obedience brings blessing. God says take a little step of faith, and I take a step of faith, and God fills me with more faith.
