Christmas Playlist – JOY

December 13, 2020

If you have no joy, there’s a leak in your Christianity somewhere. – Billy Sunday

Big Idea: Christmas is a season of joy, but i think most would gauge this joyfulness on circumstantial things. How was the visit with the in-laws? How was the food? How many gifts did I get? Did I get all that I wanted? The problem is when our joy is based on circumstances, it isn’t joy at all, it is temporary happiness. Christmas is, as it was intended, an announcement about the arrival of the Savior who would rescue us from our sin and give us real life.

This announcement is the very reason why we can experience joy this Christmas that is not based on circumstances, but based on Jesus’ presence in our lives.

Main Scriptural Text: Luke 2:9-22

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.  Luke 2:8-11

Point 1: Can’t buy

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, 1 Peter 1:8

Our joy is found in a

This faith that goes beyond needing physical evidence is the source of our inexpressible joy.

Point 2: Good news

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Luke 2:8-10

You know how it is with good news, it goes from person to person easily because you want to know it and you want others to as well.

Point 3: The gift that

Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:11

Of all the gifts we could ever hope for, this is by far the best because if does not just have immediate impact right now, it also has impact for eternity future.

We are given the opportunity to be rescued from sin and death and given a hope and future.

Point 4: Joy is

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.Psalm 150:6

Joy is contagious. If you can discover it this Christmas season it can spread to others around you.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

Point 5: The best Christmas ever is a

When circumstances don’t have bounds on your level of joy, you are learning to live life the way it was always intended.
