    Attitudes of Gratitude – 2 Samuel 6:1-23
    Sunday, November 28, 2021

    Pastor Mike Bailey

    Introduction

Our lives are filled with different roads and destinations, often shaped by the decisions we make, the people we interact with, the work we do, and the people we follow. The attitudes we have will affect where we go, and the way we travel through life. Do we have attitudes of mistrust, hatred, anger, animosity, and blame? Or do we have an attitude of gratitude that others can see, learn from, and be encouraged by? Gratitude can be contagious — leading people around you into a firm hope. What is your attitude? Is it a positive testimony to those around you, or a negative one?

    1. Me: “I’m a good doing good .” (6:1-5)

We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one. 1 John 5:19

You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. James 4:4

    2. God: “That’s not I said to do it.” (6:6-7)

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. James 1:22

    3. Me: “That wasn’t !” (6:8-11)

Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Proverbs 1:7

    4. God: “I’ll myself.” (6:12-13) (Grace)

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. Hebrews 12:11

    5. Me: “That worked much .” (6:14-15)

5Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6

    6. World: “ are you doing that?” (6:16)

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2

    7. Me: “I’m living my better now.” (6:17-19)

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”  Jeremiah 29:11

    8. World: “You’re and you need to .” (6:20)

Their minds are full of darkness; they wander far from the life God gives because they have closed their minds and hardened their hearts against him. Ephesians 4:18

    9. Me: “I’m a person, by grace.” (6:21-22)

And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God. 1 John 5:5

    10. World: “This isn’t .” (6:23)

Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions. Proverbs 18:2

Closing: What conversation are you having with God today?

It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Isaiah 59:2a

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
