Submission to Jesus

Luke 22:7-46, 54-62

-Submission = idea of placing one’s self under the ideas, leadership, & direction of another

-3 very real parts of submission to Christ seen in the disciples:

I. Faithfulness (Luke 22:7-13)

A. Attitude (9)

-“Where wilt THOU that we prepare”

-Prov. 21:2, “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.”

B. Actions (13)

-“…and they WENT…and…MADE ready the Passover.”

-When Jesus had their attitude (heart), He got their actions (obedience)

-Psalm 119:2-3 “Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.”

*Walking for God is the natural result of walking with God!

**How you an I can be faithful in our attitude and actions today:

1. Soaking

-Psalm 119:11-12 “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.”

2. Sharing

-Psalm 119:13 “With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.”

II. Participation (Luke 22:14-22)

-These guys were participating in something historic!

-Jesus explained that He would give His life and shed His blood for the salvation of sinful man that would reconcile sinful man to the Holy God!

-As followers of Jesus, these guys were participants not just in a Passover meal, but in this great salvation plan that came from God Himself!

     1. Sin entered the human race back with the 1st man created, Adam,  broke fellowship with God by breaking God’s law and as a result, sin has passed down to every man and woman.

     2. Because every man and woman is a sinner, they cannot have access to God or heaven because God is holy and in Him there is no sin–if we were to access God in our sinful state, He’d cease to be holy.

     3. So, because God loved us too much to let us go, He made a reconciliation plan that involved Jesus, His only Son, to come down to earth as a man, live a sinless life and give His sinless life as a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind.

-Jesus came to this earth to reconcile sinners to God through His sacrifice and resurrection from the dead.

-This salvation is not automatic and is not applied to every person…the Bible says it must be PERSONALLY RECEIVED if it is to apply to you.

*This is really where submission to Jesus Christ starts…in participation in the gift He offers to you and me!

III. Imperfection (Luke 22:23-46, 54-62)

A. Accusatory (23-30)

B. Deceived (31-34)

C. Vulnerable (35-38)

D. Distracted (39-46)

E. Deserting (54-62)
