Epic Roadblocks and a More Epic Savior

Luke 9:37-45

 

-Some people crumble under the of trials. Some fall into a depressive mood. Some let it adversely affect other areas of life. Everybody seems to have different responses to obstacles of life.

-As we follow the Lord Jesus in this life, He promises to go with us, but never promised it would always be easy.

 

I. (Luke 9:37, Mark 9:14)

-v. 37, The next day, when they came down from the mountain, a large crowd met him.

-Mk. 9:14 adds, and the scribes questioning with them.

-In life we’re going to run into many people who don’t agree with us, don’t like us, and given the opportunity will definitely argue with us…sometimes it is self-inflicted and sometimes its not fair.

-The problem is not the PRESENCE of resistance but our TO resistance!

James 1:19, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath

 

II. Difficulties (Luke 9:38-40)

And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child. And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him. And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not.

-Difficulties in life:

A. a man…cried out…I beseech thee

B. Disturbing it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly…

C. – (Mark 9:18) pineth away… 

D. Desperation— I besought thy disciples to cast him out…

E. and they could not.

 

III. (Luke 9:41-45)

A. Commences with Faith (41)

And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither.

-Take way: We need to be looking to in faith to solve the issues plaguing us.

-It is Jesus alone Who we look to for our eternal salvation and it’s Jesus alone Who has the solution to our struggles!

*Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

 

B. Continues with a Out (Mark 9:23-24)

Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.  And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

-Faith is evidenced by a whole-hearted humble calling out and dependence on God alone to do what only He can do!

 

C. Culminates with (Luke 9:42-45)

And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father. And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples, Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying.

-If something is going to happen, it is God Who will have to do it.

 

D. Covering in Prayer (Mark 9:29)

And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

-Prayer is a display of utter .
