Don’t Give Up On God!

Luke 18:1-8

-Jesus tells this story to make a point about our approach to prayer and the overarching idea He is passing along to us is that we need to be persistently our God Who gets great glory from our dependent persistence.

I. Insights About Our

1. God is Accessible

-Our God is an alert, active, and accessible God Who stands ready to help!

-Psalm 121:4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

-God is not reluctant, but !

-Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

-God is not behind a locked door, but is accessible to all who have a relationship with Him through Christ.

-Ephesians 2:18-19 For through him (Jesus Christ) we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.  Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

-God is not on the injured list, God is not busy with something else, God is not on sick leave, God is not on vacation, & He never hangs a “do not disturb” sign on His door!

-God is awake, alert and accessible to those in Christ!

2. God is

-God always does what is right!

-If an unjust judge can be persuaded to act justly, how much MORE our good, faithful, and just God is ready and able to act on our behalf in response to our prayers!

-What a faithful God we serve! We must understand the of our God if we are going to be encouraged to not give up on seeking Him!

3. God Determines Privilege

-Not just anybody can pray to God and Him to hear them!

-Jesus points out that it is the “elect” that God moves on behalf of.

-The Bible is very clear that in order to be considered “elect” of God, there is one specific requirement–standing righteous before God in the righteousness of Jesus Christ.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name

-Boyce: “He is the Creator of all. But He is uniquely the Father of Jesus Christ and becomes the Father only of those persons who believe on Christ.”

-Prayer is a wonderful privilege, but is only available to those who know God through faith in Jesus for salvation.

II. Items of Prayer

v. 1, He spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not faint.

-4 things God says we indeed should pray about:

1. Prayer

2 Peter 3:9 [God] is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

2. Growth Prayer

Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

3. Prayer

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

4. Peace Prayer

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

-So what do we take away from this?

1. Pray with a right of God.

2. Be persistent in your prayer to that God.

3. Pray .

Faith is BELIEVIING the Word of God and ACTING upon it,

no matter how I FEEL, knowing that God promises a GOOD result. (Bryant)
