-Often we want what Jesus is offering, but on our terms or with Him having limited access to our lives.
-Jesus wants all of us: all of our commitment, all of our love, and all of our devotion.
I. Condition (Luke 9:23)
-And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
-There are many people who simply want to from Jesus, but have no desire to follow Jesus!
-Jesus gives 3 conditions for truly following Him:
- of self
- Bearing the Cross
II. Choice (Luke 9:24-25)
A. (Luke 9:24)
–For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.
-This life really is not about this present life and its temporal issues–it’s about Jesus and His Gospel!
-When we take account of all Jesus has done for you and me, the only logical conclusion is to, in turn, live for Him!
B. (Luke 9:25)
–For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?
-While it’s easy to choose selfish motivations now, the magnitude of making that choice has ramifications!
III. Consequence (Luke 9:26)
-For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.
-If we are honest, we’d all have to admit that there are times when we are more concerned with the thoughts of man toward us than we are with the thoughts of God toward us.
-What we do with Jesus in this life has everything to do with what He does with us in the !
-1 John 5:12, He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
