A Shepherd’s Look at Christmas

Luke 2:8-20

-To these shepherds, Jesus was revealed to be the Savior of man!

-“a deliverer / preserver” … indicates man had a need = to be delivered from something

1 Peter 1:18-19 “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But {you were redeemed] with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

-God in His incredibly merciful plan sent Jesus His Son to die a sinners death (being completely innocent of sin) so that you & would not have to if we receive His payment for ourselves!

I. Introduction to the Shepherds (Luke 2:8-14)

-God’s Word & the Gospel are…

A. Accessible (8-9) “abiding in the field…the angel came”

B. Assuring (10) “Fear not”

C. All-encompasing (10) “good tidings/great joy shall be to all people”

D. Attainable (11-12) “a Savior which is Christ the Lord…And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

E. Awe-inspiring (13-14)

II. Response of the Shepherds (Luke 2:15-16)

A. Personal (15) “let us now go…and see”

B. Immediate (16) “they came with haste”

III. Continuation of the Shepherds (Luke 2:17-20)

-Life after they embraced the arrival of their Savior included at least 3 things:

A. Returning (20) “the shepherds returned”

B. Rejoicing (20) “glorifying and praising God”

C. Relating (17-18) “they made known abroad…they…wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds”

-What are YOU seeing this Christmas?
