“The Road to Jerusalem Goes Through Ziklag!”
Lesson 8 of 13
Introduction: Before David could go to Jerusalem and sit on the throne of Israel, God had to bring him through a dark experience at Ziklag. Here David had no one to turn to but God. Here he died to self and learned to encourage himself in the Lord. God became real to David at Ziklag, and God used this experience to make David more of the man that He desired for him to be.
Bible Background Reading:
1 Samuel 30:1-8; Galatians 2:20; Philippians 2:13
Day 1: From 1 Samuel 30:1-4, describe the scene at Ziklag as David and his men returned to the city.
Day 2: According to 1 Samuel 30:6, what were David’s men considering doing to him?
Day 3: What did David do when he had no one to turn to but God? (See 1 Samuel 30:6.)
Day 4: What phrase in Galatians 2:20 refers to our dying to self?
Day 5: According to Philippians 2:13, God not only works in us to do what He wants us to do, but He also does what?
Day 6: In 1 Samuel 30:7-8, what did David do before he pursued after the enemy?
- To understand that God is always preparing us for the work that He has for us to do.
- To see that God will bring us to the place where we have no one to turn to but Him so that we might come to know Him in a greater way.
- To learn to encourage ourselves in the Lord by thinking on His Word and His faithfulness to us in the past.
- To wait on the Lord and seek divine direction from Him.
