“God Is Always At Work!”
Lesson 5 of 13

Introduction:  After Habakkuk cried out to God about the sins of Judah, God told him that He was going to use the cruel Babylonians to bring judgment on the people of God.  To Habakkuk, this seemed like a bad situation that just got worse.  In the midst of this troubling circumstance, God gave him a promise, “I will work a work.”  We must know that in every situation God is at work.  No matter how hopeless we may feel, we can know that God is always at work in our lives.

Bible Background Reading:

Habakkuk 1:5-11; Philippians 1:6; Acts 13:40-41; Luke 15:11-24

Preparation Questions:

Day 1:   According to Habakkuk 1:5, where was Habakkuk supposed to look in order to see God to do a work.

Day 2:   According to Habakkuk 1:5, what were the people not going to believe?  Why is unbelief so wicked?

Day 3:   What nation did God use to conquer Judah (Habakkuk 1:6)?

Day 4:   Philippians 1:6 teaches that we can be confident that God will do what?

Day 5:  Acts 13:40-41 makes reference tow hat verse in Habakkuk?

Day 6:   What is the promise of God that we can claim in Habakkuk 1:5?

Lesson Aims:

  • To see that God’s judgment is progressive and that a sinful nation may fall from within long before it is taken from without.
  • To understand that God may be working in an unlikely way or in an unlikely place, but He is always working.
  • To show that we dishonor the Lord when we are careless about our faith in God.
  • To learn that unbelief will bring the judgment of God.
  • To have greater faith in God, knowing that He is still able to do all things.
  • To place our confidence in God and believe that He will work a work in our lives and the lives of those we love.

Scripture Memory:

Habakkuk 1:5
