“The Patience And Comfort of The Scriptures!”
Lesson 4 of 13

Introduction:  The Lord has given us His Word and has made it possible for us to live with the patience and comfort of the Scriptures.  Bad things are going to come our way, but if we have an understanding of the Word of God, we will have the patience to trust the Lord and we will receive the comfort that only God’s Word can give.  It will change the way we look at life because God’s Word gives us hope in the midst of the worst storm.

Bible Background Reading:

Romans 15:1-13; I Corinthians 10:1-6; Acts 8:30; Romans 8:28; Proverbs 4:5-9; Job 28:28; I Peter 2:21, 23.

Preparation Questions:

Day 1:   According to Romans 15:4, what does God’s Word provide for us?

Day 2:   Compare Romans 15:4 and I Corinthians 10:1-6.  What is the purpose for the things written aforetime?

Day 3:   Read Proverbs 4:5-9 and Job 28:28.  Why is it so important to obtain an understanding of God’s Word?

Day 4:   According to Romans 15:8, who confirms the promises of God?

Day 5:   How is the Lord described in Romans 15:13?

Day 6:   From Romans 15:4, how is it possible that we live our lives with hope?

Lesson Aims:

  • To realize that we need the Word of God and we need the patience and comfort that it alone provides.
  • To learn that we must ask God by His Spirit to give us understanding as we read His Word.
  • To show that our lives as Christians should be characterized by patience and comfort, not frustration and worry.
  • To have the right attitude toward God and patiently trust Him with every need we have in life.
  • To abound in hope even in the midst of difficult times, knowing that our hope is in the Lord and in the promises of His Word.

Scripture Memory:

Romans 15:4
