“At Wit’s End!”
Lesson 3 of 13
Introduction: When we come to “wit’s end,” we have come to the place where we realize we need the Lord. In Psalm 107, the Word of God gives a picture of those who come to the end of themselves, cry unto the Lord, and find deliverance in Him. In this lesson, we will see what we are supposed to do when we come to wit’s end.
Bible Background Reading:
Psalm 107; Psalm 136; Psalm 23:6; Proverbs 16:25
Day 1: Read Psalm 107:27. What do you think is meant by the expression, “and are at their wit’s end”?
Day 2: Compare Psalm 107:1 and Psalm 136. What great truth accentuates all that God does?
Day 3: In Psalm 107:3-8, what did the people need from the Lord?
Day 4: From Psalm 107:17-20, what did God use to heal those who were nearing death because of their sin?
Day 5: According to Psalm 107:23-31, what did these people do when they found themselves in a time of great trouble?
Day 6: According to Psalm 107:43, what does God want us to understand?
- To see that is a good thing to come to our wit’s end because it is only then that we are willing to allow God to take control?
- To remember that God is good and that He is a God of mercy.
- To learn to cry unto the Lord when we are brought low because of sin, sorrow, or trouble in life.
- To understand that God allows us to come to wit’s end so that we can learn to trust Him and to give up our plan for His plan.
I. THE LORD WE KNOW!
–When we doubt the goodness of God, we are youe on dangerous ground.
II. THE LIFE WE LIVE!
Psalm 107:3-8; 17-21; 23-31
–They cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
–They came to wit’s end and there was no one to help but God.
III. THE LESSON WE LEARN!
–The lesson we learn is that God lets us come to wit’s end so that we give up our plan for His plan.
