“The Treasures of Darkness!”
Lesson 2 of 13

Introduction:  Our God brings us to the place where we no longer look for answers; we simply find rest in Him.  Read Romans 11:33-36 and notice the expression, “his ways past finding out!”  God is infinite, but we are finite beings.  There are so many things we shall never fully understand.

Bible Background Reading:

Romans 11:33-36; John 10:27-28; Matthew 10:30; I John 2:17; Psalm 116:15; Isaiah 40:10-31; Hebrews 11:1-3; John 14:9; Ephesians 3:8, 11, 13-19; John 7:17; II Corinthians 5:8; I Thessalonians 4:13-14

Preparation Questions:

Day 1:   Romans 11:33 speaks about “the depth of the riches” of what two things?

Day 2:   In John 10:27 the Lord Jesus says that He knows His sheep.  How well does He know them? (see also Matthew 10:30.)

Day 3:   Answer the questions asked in Romans 11:34-35.  What is God trying to teach us by asking these questions?

Day 4:   Read Hebrews 1:1-3.  Who is the “express image” of God?

Day 5:   In Ephesians 3:13-19, Paul prayed that these saints would “comprehend” and “know” what?

Day 6:   According to John 7:17, what must first take place before we can “know” more about the Lord?

Lesson Aims:

  • To see that there are many things in life that we will never fully understand because God’s ways are past finding out.
  • To understand that God’s wisdom is based upon His perfect and complete knowledge.
  • To realize that God knows all about us, and that He knows the past, present, and future.
  • To learn that we know God through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • To seek to know God through prayer when we face difficult times in life.
  • To submit ourselves to God’s Word so that we might know God in a greater way.

Scripture Memory:

Romans 11:33

Lesson Notes:

I. GOD’S WISDOM IS BASED ON HIS KNOWLEDGE!

Romans 11:33; John 10:27

–God is just as aware of tomorrow as He is of yesterday.

II. MAN’S KNOWLEDGE IS LIMITED!

Romans 11:34; 36-37

–Some things we do not fully understand and never shall.

III.  WE KNOW GOD THROUGH HIS SON!

Hebrews 1:1-3

“He that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9)

IV. WE KNOW GOD THROUGH PRAYER!

Ephesians 3:13-19

–We know more of God’s ways through prayer.

V. WE KNOW GOD THROUGH HIS WORD!

John 7:17

We will never understand all of God’s ways, but we can be sure that He makes no mistakes.

God is at work in the darkness.  Let us seek Him and find Him.
