“The Treasures of Darkness!”
Lesson 1 of 13

Introduction:  At times in life, we realize that we are in darkness. These are times of testing when we cannot find our own way and we look for answers. God is at work in the dark. There are treasures to be found in the darkness, but we must trust the Lord to lead us to them. As we seek the Lord Jesus and let Him lead, He will guide us in His way. He will give us the treasures of darkness.

Bible Background Reading:

Isaiah 45:1-7, 21-23; Romans 11:33-36; Philippians 1:12; Psalm 107:1-2, 6, 13, 19, 28; Jonah 1:15, 2:3; Ezra 1:1-3; Genesis 45:5; John 3:16

Preparation Questions:

Day 1:   In Isaiah 45:1-3, to what man does God make these promises?  What does God promise in verse three?

Day 2:   From Philippians 1:12, what was the purpose for the things that had happened to Paul?

Day 3:   According to Psalm 107:1, what two things are always true about God?

Day 4:   Read Jonah 1:15 and Jonah 2:3.  Who cast Jonah into the sea?  how did Jonah see God’s hand in his circumstances?

Day 5:   What was the decree of Cyrus in Ezra 1:1-3?

Day 6:   What did Joseph say in Genesis 45:5 that reveals that he recognized God’s purpose in his life?

Lesson Aims:

  • To learn that, in the midst of darkness, God will lead us to treasures that He has for us.
  • To see that we must never doubt the goodness of God.
  • To understand that God is always at work in every circumstance in life.
  • To realize that God’s word is not confined to one period of time, but that it comprehends all of history.
  • To rejoice in the fact that God is concerned with every detail of our lives.
  • To see that what happens in our lives has eternal significance as it relates to God’s work.
