THE MIRACLES OF JESUS LESSON 7
July 23, 2020 / Hebrews 12:2
THE MIRACLES OF JESUS SERIES
Led by Pastor Shane
Introduction: There are only two times recorded in Scripture that Jesus Christ “marveled.” On one occasion He marveled because of people’s unbelief, and on the other, He marveled because of man’s great faith. As we study this miracle, we must ask ourselves, “How is our faith?” May the Lord help us to abide in Him and to be people of good faith.
Bible Background Reading:
Luke 7:1-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; Hebrews 12:2; Acts 4:12; Matthew 28:18; Colossians 1:16; Mark 6:6; John 15:7
Day 1: Compare Hebrews 12:2 and Acts 4:12. Who must be the sole object of our faith?
Day 2: Read Luke 7:1-5 and briefly describe the centurion in this story?
Day 3: In Luke 7:6-7, how did the centurion’s attitude about himself differ from what others thought of him?
Day 4: According to Luke 7:8, the centurion understood something about authority. What does Matthew 28:18 teach about Christ’s authority?
Day 5: Compare Mark 6:6 and Luke 7:9. Christ “marveled” on what two different occasions?
Day 6: According to John 15:7, what must be true in our lives if our prayers are going to be answered?
- To see that the object of our faith must always be Christ and Christ alone.
- To realize that none of us are worthy of God’s mercy and grace.
- To understand the Lord’s authority and HIs ability to do all things.
- To abide in Christ and live obediently to the Lord, so that we might have our prayers answered as we go through each day.
I. WHAT OTHERS SAID OF THIS MAN!
–Christ alone must be the object of our faith.
–The Jewish leaders considered this to be a noble, worthy man in the community.
II. WHAT THE MAN THOUGHT OF HIMSELF!
–When others think highly of you, it is difficult not to think highly of yourself.
— We are not deserving, but God has shown mercy and grace to us.
III. WHAT JESUS THOUGHT OF HIM!
Luke 7:8; John 15:7
–We can be obedient to the Lord and have our prayers answered each day.
