“The Faith Israel!”
Lesson 10 of 13
Introduction: The fortified city of Jericho stood at the entrance of Canaan. These wanderers, the children of Israel, have come over Jordan and are face to face with the city. For centuries, their forefathers were slaves. They were not trained soldiers in any sense. They have crossed the Jordan and face this tremendous challenge. There is no way to go back. They are there and must deal with the city. God placed in their path so He could prove Himself to them. What has He placed in your path?
Bible Background Reading:
Hebrews 11:29-30; II Timothy 1:12; Exodus 14:1-25; Deuteronomy 1:23-32; Joshua 6:1-20; Psalm 37:7; Isaiah 28:16
Day 1: What two events are mentioned in Hebrews 11:29-30 in which the children of Israel exercised faith in God?
Day 2: What did Moses remind the children of Israel about in Deuteronomy 1:23-32?
Day 3: In Joshua 6:1-10, how did Joshua respond to God’s detailed instructions concerning the siege of Jericho?
Day 4: Read Joshua 6:1-14. How did the people’s silence demonstrate their faith in God?
Day 5: According to Psalm 37:7, what are we to do patiently?
Day 6: In Joshua 6:20, God delivered Jericho into Israel’s hands. What lesson did they learn that their forefathers who died in the wilderness never learned?
- To realize that when we walk by faith, we seek God’s way and seek to obey the Lord in every detail.
- To recognize that the faith life is a disciplined life and a life that is yielded to the Lord’s control.
- To learn to be silent and wait upon the Lord, rather than expressing our own opinions and solutions.
- To be reminded that God is always on time, and to have the faith to patiently wait for Him to work.
I. THE OBEDIENCE OF FAITH!
–We cannot have our way and God’s way; our way must become His way.
II. THE DISCIPLINE OF FAITH!
–Learn to be quiet and wait on the Lord.
III. THE PATIENCE OF FAITH!
–It is not right for God’s children to grow impatient with Him.
