“The Faith of Isaac!”
Lesson 5 of 13
Introduction: In Hebrews chapter eleven, God calls our attention to something near the end of Isaac’s life. He points us back to a single incident. From that incident He wants us to gather truths that will help us to turn our eyes God-ward and that will strengthen our faith in the Lord.
Bible Background Reading:
Hebrews 11:20; Genesis 25:19-28; Genesis 26:13, 18; Genesis 27:1-25, 33-34; Hebrews 12:17; Proverbs 19:21; Isaiah 14:26-27
Day 1: Read Hebrews 11:9-10 and list the things that Abraham did “by faith.”
Day 2: In Genesis 17:1, by what name did God reveal Himself to Abraham?
Day 3: According to James 2:21-23, what was Abraham called?
Day 4: Compare Genesis 18:9-14 and Matthew 19:26. What was the Lord teaching Abraham about Himself?
Day 5: Read Hebrews 11:1 and I Peter 3:5-6. In what ways did Sara exercise her own faith in God?
Day 6: Read the story in Genesis 22:1-13 and compare this account with Hebrews 11:17-19. How did Abraham face this trial?
- To recognize the place God should hold in our hearts if we are truly placing our faith in Him.
- To have a determination to finish our lives with strong faith in the Lord.
- To trust the Lord to help us deal with our own failures and partialities toward others.
- To see by faith that God has an eternal purpose and that His purpose will be accomplished in this world.
–We study the accounts of these men to se God as He works in their lives.
I. THE PLACE GOD SHOULD HOLD IN OUR HEARTS!
Genesis 26:19-28; Genesis 27
–We must determine to finish strong.
II. THE PARTIALITY IN THE FAMILY!
–The ideas of men rise and fall, they come and go; but God’s counsel will stand.
III. THE PURPOSE OF GOD IN THE WORLD!
Proverbs 19:21; Isaiah 14:26-27
–God has a purpose, and it is moving forward. Who shall turn it back? The answer is no one.
