“In The Presence of Mine Enemies!”
Lesson 10 of 13
Introduction: When David was a young man, he gave testimony to King Saul that shepherding is dangerous work. He said, “Enemies are out there! I fought a lion and a bear!” We live in a world full of enemies. Often we pray that God would remove all these enemies from us; but that is not how God works. In the presence of our enemies, we must stay close to the Shepherd and trust in Him to prepare a table for us.
Bible Background Reading:
Psalm 23; I Samuel 17:26-29, 31-36; Philippians 4:19; Ephesians 3:20; Psalm 78:18-41; II Chronicles 7:14; Romans 8:28-32; John 17:14-17; Philippians 3:17-18
Day 1: David teaches us about the work of a shepherd in 1 Samuel 17:31-36. What enemies had David faced? What enemies do we face?
Day 2: According to the words of Philippians 4:19 and Ephesians 3:20, to what degree is God able to meet our needs?
Day 3: Compare Psalm 78:22 and 78:41. How do we “limit” God?
Day 4: Read Romans 8:32. What has the Lord already done in order to prove that He will provide for every need we have?
Day 5: In John 17:14-17 the Lord Jesus is praying for His children. Why do you think it is God’s will for His children to be in this wicked world?
Day 6: I John 4:4 tells us that God’s children have gained the victory over the world. How is this possible?
- To see that the Lord Jesus is able to provide all of our needs.
- To understand that God uses our enemies to cause us to trust Him.
–Our God delights in preparing a table fo us in the presence of our enemies.
I. THE PREPARATION OF THE TABLE!
–Our needs are great, but God is greater!
— Christ has prepared a table that provides all our needs. We dine at his table only by faith.
II. THE PRESENCE OF OUR ENEMIES!
–God uses these enemies as tools to cause us to trust Him.
–Do not worry about the enemies; just keep looking to the Shepherd. He will prepare a table for you.
