God & Government

When a nation departs from God (2 Chronicles 15:3-6)…

  • = Replacing God in order to define life and its meaning, purpose, and responsibility on one’s own.
  • God gives them over (Romans 1:21-28).
  • Redefine and (Isaiah 5:20).
  • Confusion/ (Genesis 11:7)

Clarify “Separation of Church & State:”

1st Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

  • Government recognition of God does not constitute the establishment of a state church.
  • Separation of Church and State is not the removal of God from government.
  • Psalm 22:28
  • Thomas Jefferson: “No nation has ever yet existed or been governed without religion nor can be. The Christian religion is the best religion that has been given to man and I, as Chief Magistrate of this nation, am bound to give it the sanction of my example.”
  • Declaration of Independence: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Also appeals to the “Supreme Judge of the world” and “a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence.”

God is our Lawgiver (James 4:12; Isaiah 33:22; Romans 13:3-5; Ezra 7:25-26; Deuteronomy 4:8).

3. The of a “nation under God” is…

  • Being released from anything or anyone that illegitimately holds you hostage from what God has authorized you to enjoy.

Galatians 5:13; 1 Peter 2:16-17; Romans 8:2
