The Armor of God

Ephesians 6:10-11

10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 

11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

What is armor?

Definition: the metal coverings formerly worn by soldiers or warriors to protect the body in battle

One Point:  If we want to win against the devil’s attacks, we must put on the Armor of God, not just have it.

One Question:  How do we put on the Armor of God?

1. We must know who we are because of our salvation through Jesus Christ.

a. When we know who we are in Christ, we fight from victory not for victory.  Romans 8:37

b. Remember: You get what you fight for.  What are you fighting for?

c. If we are not careful, our issue can become our identity, and our struggles can become our stronghold.

One Point:  If we want to win against the devil’s attacks, we must put on the Armor of God, not just have it.

One Question:  How do we put on the Armor of God?

2. Stand your ground by praying and having faith. 

Ephesians 6:12-13

12For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

13Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.

a. Don’t give up.  Don’t run away. 

b. Keep on standing, and then Stand.  Stand strong by praying.

One Point:  If we want to win against the devil’s attacks, we must put on the Armor of God, not just have it.

One Question:  How do we put on the Armor of God?

Ephesians 6:14-17

putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.6:15 Or For shoes, put on the readiness to preach the Good News of peace with God. 16In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.6:16 Greek the evil one. 17Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

3. Put on the Armor of God, one piece at a time.

1. Belt of Truth
2. Body Armor of God’s Righteousness
3. Shoes of Peace by the power of the Gospel
4. Shield of Faith
5. Helmet of Salvation
6. Sword of the Spirit

Ephesians 6:18

18Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. 

Keep on believing, standing, and praying. 

Be alert and aware.

Pray for one another.

1. How can we be strong?
2. Who is our real enemy?
3. How can we put on the armor of God?
4. Let’s pray for one another.

Pursuit – Chase after God with all we’ve got.  Experience the fire of the Holy Spirit.
