Dead to Sin – WK 2
Big Idea: Our souls find rest in God alone.

Sin is defined – “meeting a legitimate need in an illegitimate way”

  • WE ARE NOT A BODY WITH A .
  • WE ARE A SOUL WITH A .

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Gen 2:7 KJV

Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”

  • THE RESTLESS SOUL IS BUT NEVER .
  • IT’S INTERESTED IN BUT SATISFIED WITH .

Where do we find rest for our souls?

BIG IDEA: Our souls find rest in God alone.

My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. Ps 62:1

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ” Matt 11:28-29

How do we find rest in God?

  • BE BEFORE . Be still, and know that I am GodPs 46:10
  • FOR GOD. Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for himPs 37:7

Discussion Questions:

  1. Share a highlight from your week.
  2. Have you wanted to accomplish something to a point that you’d go to any length to achieve that goal?
  3. Tonight we will learn that sin is defined as “meeting a legitimate need in an illegitimate way”. What are examples of legitimate needs we might feel we have right now? In what sinful ways would we try to meet those? What would be healthy, God-honoring ways to meet them instead?
  4. Let’s discuss the difference between sin management and living in freedom. What do those two statements mean?
  5. What are some places or activities where you find freedom (exercising, art, time with friends, hiking, time with a mentor, sports)?
  6. How can we pray for you? Go around your group and tell of something everyone can be praying with you for.
