The Essentials of the Incarnation

Philippians 2:5-11

1.   Jesus is God and yet was to become man (vv. 5-6) 

 John 1:1; Hebrews 1:3

2.  Jesus became fully man and yet did not to be God (vv. 7-8) 

 Heb. 1:3; Col. 1:19; Matt. 1:21-23

• He emptied Himself by taking the form of a servant (Matthew 20:260-28; 2 Corinthians 8:9)
• He emptied Himself by being born in the likeness of men (Galatians 4:4)
• He emptied Himself by humbling Himself in obedience (Philippians 2:8)

3.  We celebrate the incarnation because it is the means through which we can be saved.

4. We celebrate the incarnation because through it Jesus and with our weaknesses 

Hebrews 2:18, 4:14-16; 2 Corinthians 8:9
