Tempting Jesus

Mark: How Jesus changes everything.

“Temptations” 1:9-12-13

1. Where the Spirit leads. v12
   • • • Temptation can come immediately after spiritual victories. (Timing)
       • The wilderness, whether physical or spiritual, is a dry, lonely and dangerous place.
         • Dry-void of nourishment and refreshment. It increases our exhaustion and desire to move on.
         • Lonely- the enemy wants to get each of us alone in our struggle. Separated from the active body of Christ.
         • Dangerous– Things have changed since the first Adam. The first Adam began in peace and comfort with purpose. Sin brought a danger into human existence.
         • There are many things in the desert and there are many thoughts that come because of the desert that can distract us or bring death to us.
2. The Temptation. V13
   • • • Jesus temptation is described as being put to a test or to be put on trial to see what kind of person you are.
       • In contrast to the wild animals, the angels cared for and ministered to Jesus in His humanity during the testing.

3. Overcoming Temptation

• • • • Take on “your” sin.
      • Walk in the Spirit and you will not gratify the flesh.
      • Take on the armor of God and learn to walk daily in it.
