The book of Proverbs give us some common sense advice when it comes to our relationship. Proverbs warn us about who to avoid in our relationships and who to embrace. Proverbs also give us wisdom in strengthening our relationships through controlling our words, our anger and our ability to listen.

SERMON NOTES

1. WHO TO AVOID

Unreliable – Wicked – Volatile – Sexually Immoral

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24

The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. Proverbs 12:26

Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, Proverbs 22:24

But a man who commits adultery has no sense; whoever does so destroys himself.. Proverbs 6:32

2. WHO TO EMBRACE

Wise – Truthful – Woman (or man) who fears God

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. Proverbs 13:20
Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy. Proverbs 27:6

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30

3. HOW TO ACT IN RELATIONSHIPS

Listen to Advice – Guard Lips – Be a Faithful Friend – Choose Peace over Wealth

The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice. Proverbs 12:15

Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. Proverbs 13:3

Do not forsake your friend or a friend of your family, Proverbs 27:10a

Better a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred. Proverbs 15:17
