1 Out of the box

Acts 1:12-14 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away. 13 And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James. 14 All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.

Acts 1:4-5 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5 for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”

Matthew 18:19 Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.

The Bible describes fasting as abstaining from food to consecrate ourselves to the Lord.

3 Types of Fasts

1. Full Fast: abstaining from food but drinking lots of water.

• Eat at certain times during the day

2. Partial Fast: abstaining from certain foods or only eating certain times of the day.

• –  The Daniel Fast (Abstain from animal products)

• –  Liquid Fast

• –  Partial fast… only eating one meal a day.

3. Soul Fast: abstaining from social media and entertainment.

Fasting is not:

A) Penance – It’s not making ourselves hurt to please God
B) Manipulation – Not twisting God’s arm. You couldn’t do that if you had to
C) A Diet – “A diet changes the way you look – A fast changes the way you see”
