1 Timothy 2:1-6
- Don’t be the city.
- Don’t be the city.
- Be a people the city.
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
“So is God’s will, through his wonderful grace, that the prayers of his saints should be one great and principal means of carrying on the designs of Christ’s kingdom in the world. When God has something very great to accomplish for his church, it is his will that there should precede it the extraordinary prayers of his people.” – Jonathan Edwards
Why do we pray for our city?
- Christ the salvation of all people. (vs. 1-4)
…who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.1 Timothy 2:4
- Christ the worship of all people. (vs. 5)
For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
1 Timothy 2:5
- Christ for the rescue of all people. (vs. 6)
who gave himself as a ransom for all… 2 Timothy 2:6a
“The man who mobilizes the Christian church to pray will make the greatest contribution to world evangelization in history.” – Andrew Murray
