This Is God’s Word

Matthew 6:7–15 When you pray, don’t babble like the Gentiles, since they imagine they’ll be heard for their many words. 8  Don’t be like them, because your Father knows the things you need before you ask him.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
9  “Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, your name be honored as holy. 10  Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11  Give us today our daily bread. 12  And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13  And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. 14  “For if you forgive others their offenses, your heavenly Father will forgive you as well. 15  But if you don’t forgive others, your Father will not forgive your offenses.

Jesus specifically invites is to relate to HIS Heavenly Father as OUR Heavenly Father. How does approaching God as father land for you? Is it helpful, or is it a challenge? Explain.

QUESTION: God loves to hear from us when we have a need, but look closely at the things mentioned in The Lord’s Prayer. What stands out to you about the different areas of life Jesus encourages us to pray FOR?

QUESTION: In the message Sunday, Lennon said “Through dependence on God we can do what we are meant to do, and we can be who we are meant to become.” What can you see about The Lord’s Prayer that might shed light on the type of people God wants us to become?

QUESTION: The Bible reveals the Kingdom of God as being both our eternal destiny and a developing
reality that we contribute to with how we live. Jesus says that we should pray for God’s Kingdom to come on a regular basis. How might praying “Your Kingdom come” daily change how you approach situations you face throughout your day?

QUESTIONS: Re-read Matthew 6:14-15. Spend a moment thinking about Jesus’ stern words unforgiveness. This is a hard line! What kinds of things happen in the heart of an unforgiving person? Why do you think God our Father unwilling to forgive us if we refuse to forgive others?
