Back to Basics – #4 Holy Spirit

Foundation Text

Luke 6:47-49 TPT 47 Let me describe the one who truly follows me and does what I say. 48 He is like a man who chooses the right place to build a house and then lays a deep and secure foundation. When the storms and floods rage against that house, it continues to stand strong and unshaken through the tempest, for it has been wisely built on the right foundation. 49 But the one who has heard my teaching and does not obey it is like a man who builds a house without laying any foundation whatsoever. When the storms and floods rage against that house, it will immediately collapse and become a total loss. Which of these two builders will you be?”

What Does He DO?

Reminds of the correct path

John 14:26 TLB 26  But when the Father sends the Comforter instead of me —and by the Comforter I mean the Holy Spirit—he will teach you much, as well as remind you of everything I myself have told you.

Convicts you when you get off the path

John 16:8 NLT 8  And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.

Guides you back to the correct path

John 16:13 NLT 13  When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

Draws you closer to Him

Romans 8:16 TPT 16 For the Holy Spirit makes God’s fatherhood real to us as he whispers into our innermost being, “You are God’s beloved child!”

Brings power to your life

Acts 1:8 TPT 8 But I promise you this—the Holy Spirit will come upon you and you will be filled with power. And you will be my messengers to Jerusalem, throughout Judea, the distant provinces —even to the remotest places on earth!”

What Should WE Do?

Receive Him

John 20:22 NLT 22  Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.

Walk in Him

Galatians 5:16-18 NKJV 16  I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17  For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Stir Him

2 Timothy 1:6 NKJV 6  Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

Apply Him

2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV 7  For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
