I want to Fear God

August 23, 2020

Solomon said the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Interesting to me that at the beginning of the church, God reminded them to fear him — right at the start!

The fear of the Lord is a major theme that runs from Genesis to Revelation. An unhealthy fear of God drives us away from God. It causes us to doubt security of salvation and blinds us to his great Love. A healthy fear of the Lord brings us closer to God. It gives us right perspective to see God fully.

What happened? = Ananias forgot

What kind of God were they dealing with?

Acts 4:33: A kind God.

Acts 5:9: A righteous God.

Acts 5:5: A powerful God

Acts 4:33: A Gracious God

Danger: When we don’t teach the church to fear the Lord:

1. My joy in the Lord is dulled

2. I am put in danger (Acts 5:9)

3. I don’t know God fully

When they feared God = Acts 5:11-16.

Encouragements:

  • Give the Bible an unedited read.
  • Welcome the Holy Spirit’s conviction over sin.
