MY APPLICATION

Use the following questions this week to reflect on what it would mean to align yourself with the truths taught in Scripture. Each question is meant for both personal reflection and as a catalyst for discussion with your family, friends, or small group.

  1. Jesus told the disciples to ask the Father in “his name.” (See John 15:16; 16:23) What can we learn about praying in Jesus’ name from this prayer? How do you feel about Jesus praying for you before he went to the cross? (See John 17:20)
  2. Glory is honor won by notable achievements. What are some examples of achievements people pursue to receive a feeling of personal glory? What achievement truly brings glory to God and from God? (See John 17:1-5, v. 22)
  3. Jesus prayed for protection for the disciples on their mission to establish the church and spread the message of Christianity. What would have happened if they gave up on the mission because it was too difficult? Do you feel you are part of destiny as you think of all the sacrifices people have made to bring the gospel to you? How does their sacrifice motivate you?
  4. How would you answer the question, “what am I giving my life to?” Are you “Nessie Hunting?” What part of the mission of Jesus are you advancing? Is God calling you to something that you are struggling to accept? Explain.

MEMORY VERSE

“I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”

John 17:23
