Seven Words from a Bloody Cross

April 10, 2022 / Jerry Thorpe

“But, God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ!  Galatians 6:14

So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Hosanna in the highest!” And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”   Matthew 21:6-11

SEVEN WORDS FROM A BLOODY CROSS:

  1. THE WORD OF FORGIVENESS!

“Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” Luke 23:34

  1. THE WORD OF SALVATION!

“Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us. But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong. Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”  And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”   Luke 23: 39-43

  1. THE WORD OF AFFECTION!

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” John 19:25-26

  1. THE WORD OF ANGUISH!

“And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?”   Matthew 27:46

“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”  2 Corinthians 5:21

  1. THE WORD OF SUFFERING!

“After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”  John 19:28

  1. THE WORD OF VICTORY!

“So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!”
 JOHN 19:30

  1. THE WORD OF CONTENTMENT!

“Father, into thy hands I commend My spirit!”   Luke 23:46
