Table Talk – The Last Supper

April 3, 2022

Speaker: Tim Perkins
Date: April 3, 2022
Message Title: Table Talk

Table Topics: What would Jesus say if He could have dinner with you?

1. Your highest calling in life is to others.

(John 13:1-5 NIV) It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love. 2 The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus. 3 Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4 so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5 After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

(John 13:12-15, 17 NIV) When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. 13 “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

(Matthew 20:25-28 NIV) “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

(John 13:17 NIV) Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

Serving = Find a need and it. Find a hurt and it.

Table Question: What can I do this week to intentionally someone else?

2. When earth gets hard, focus on .

(John 14:1 NIV) Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.

(John 14:2-3 NIV) In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

  • If I know God, is as close to as I’ll ever get. It only gets .
  • If I don’t know God, is as close to as I’ll ever get, it only gets .

Table Question: Who needs my ?

(Philippians 1:27 NLT) Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.

(Philippians 3:20 NIV) But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ…

3. We can do more than we can apart.

(John 15:4-5 NIV) Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit byitself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit;apart from me you can do nothing.

(John 15:8 NIV) This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showingyourselves to be my disciples.

  • is always better than .

Table Question: What’s part?

  • When all of us do a little, we do a lot!

4. to the voice of the Holy Spirit within you.

(John 14:16-17 NIV) And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you.

(John 16:1 NIV) “All this I have told you so that you will not fall away.”

(John 16:8, 13 NLT) “And when he comes, He will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment…

  • The Holy Spirit’s voice is only as loud as my willingness to .

  1. Pray about .

(John 17:1 NLT) After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come…

  • Prayer needs to be our , not our last resort.

(Philippians 4:6-7 NIV) Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayerand petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to GodAnd the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
