Message Title: Our Goal = Contentment (Philippians 4:10-23)

(Philippians 4:10-23 NIV) I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

 

14 Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles. 15 Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only; 16 for even when I was in Thessalonica, you sent me aid again and again when I was in need. 17 Not that I am looking for a gift, but I am looking for what may be credited to your account. 18 I have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. 20 To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 21 Greet all the saints in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send greetings. 22 All the saints send you greetings, especially those who belong to Caesar’s household. 23 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

(1 Timothy 6:8 NLT) But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.

(Hebrews 13:5 NIV) Keep yourself free from the love of money and be content with what you have.


1st Key to a content life…
Value people more than

(Philippians 4:10 NIV) I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you have been concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 


2nd Key to a content life…
Understand possessions are not the key to

(Philippians 4:11 NIV) I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.

(Luke 12:15 NLT) Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed.  Life is not measured by how much you own.

John Wesley said, “Earn all you can. Save all you can. Give all you can.”

(Philippians 4:11-12 NIV) I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.

3rd Key to a content life…
Remember your with Jesus Christ

(Philippians 4:13 NIV) I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

 

4th Key to a content life…
Be more concerned with the needs of than your own

(Philippians 4:14-17 NLT) Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty. As you know, you Philippians were the only ones who gave me financial help when I first brought you the Good News and then traveled on from Macedonia. No other church did this. Even when I was in Thessalonica you sent help more than once. I don’t say this because I want a gift from you. Rather, I want you to receive a reward for your kindness.  

(Philippians 2:4 NLT) Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

 

5th Key to a content life…
Rest confidently in provision.

(Philippians 4:18 NLT) At the moment I have all I need—and more! I am generously supplied with the gifts you sent me with Epaphroditus. They are a sweet-smelling sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing to God. 

(Philippians 4:19 NIV) And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

 

6th Key to a content life…
Live on for Christ. 

(Philippians 4:21-23 NIV) Greet all the saints in Christ Jesus. The brothers who are with me send greetings. All the saints send you greetings, especially those who belong to Caesar’s household. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.
