Jesus Encounters:  Extravagance  

Mark 14:1-9

 

Jesus what awaited him in Jerusalem: 

 

18 “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death 19  and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!” Matthew 20:18-19 (NIV)

He willingly chose the way of , the way of the cross for us. 

 

Jesus had compassion and love for the people he along the way. 

 

Mary anointed Jesus’ head with costly perfumed .

Sometimes it’s OK to be

 

 

  1. It’s OK to be Extravagant in our

 

 

 “a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.”    Mark 14:3b (NIV) 

 

 

  1. It’s OK to be Extravagant in our

 

 

Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.  Mark 14:6 (NIV) 

 

 

  1.     It’s OK to be Extravagant in our

 

 “I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” Mark 14:9 (NIV) 

 

 

Jesus enables us to be in our generosity, gratitude, and graciousness.
