DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. When was the last time you wrote a non-business letter to a friend (snail mail)?
    1. To whom did you write? Where were you located? Where were the recipients of your letter located?
    1. When did that occur? What was the situation that made you write? How did you structure your letter?
    1. What did you say in the letter? What were the main reasons you wrote? Who delivered the letter?
  1. Our church is studying the letter to the Ephesians. From the letter itself, let’s ask the same questions we gave ourselves in question one above, even though we may not get all the answers we are seeking. And that’s okay.
    1. Who is the author? To whom did the author write? Where were the author and audience located?
    1. When did that occur? What was the situation that made the author write? How did they structure their letter?
    1. What were the main topics the writer wrote about in the letter? What were the main reasons the author wrote the letter? Who delivered the letter?
    1. One of the main topics of the letter is the portrayal of Christ bringing Jew and Gentile together into one people of God, which is the ultimate triumph and glory of Christ. See Ephesians 1:11-14; 2:11-22, esp. vv. 14-16; 3:1-13.

Now follow what Pastor Justin said on Sunday morning to the children and answer the questions he presented:

“Sometimes our world and even our churches struggle with division. Let me ask you a question:

Does everyone in your school [family, work, or church] always get along? That is, no one fights or disagrees ever?

  • What kinds of things divide people in your school [family or work]?
  • Do you think people ever get divided at church? Why does that occur?
  • What do you think is the godly way to respond to division?
  • Read Ephesians 4:3. What is the godly way to respond to division?
  • According to Jesus in John 13:35, how will people know we are Christians? How does this work in your daily life?

Summary: So, what should you do if you feel divided and against someone?
