Week 01: Lasting Relationships

In order for relationships to work, we must let the One who them them. 

(Jeremiah 6:16) This is what the LORD says: “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”

Comes to building trust, I must choose to  and be . 

(1 Corinthians 13:4-7)Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

(Luke 6:31) Do to others as you would have them do to you.

3 Commitments for a lasting relationship:

  1. Whenever there is a gap between what I expect and what I experience I choose to fill it with trust.
  2. Whenever I hear someone else filling the gap with suspicion, I will come to your defense.
  3. Whenever what I experience begins to erode trust, I will come to you first. 

 

  Establish Open

Tools for Better Communication:

  1. Be Available
  2. Be Attentive 
  3. Be Aware
  4. Be Affectionate 
  5. Be Appreciative
  6. Be Aggressive

  Create Healthy

(Proverbs 25:17) Seldom set foot in your neighbor’s house — too much of you, and they will hate you. 

(John 2:24) But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people.

My boundaries reflect my health — how you respond to my boundaries reflects your health. 

(Proverbs 13:20) Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.

(Matthew 6:3) But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

  Leave Room for

(Ephesians 4:32) Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
