Model Citizens (Philippians 2:17-30)

February 13, 2022

Series: Citizens – Study through Philippians
Speaker: Tim Perkins
Date: February 13, 2022
Message Title: Model Citizens (Philippians 2:17-30)

Philippians 1:27a (NLT) Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ.

Philippians 1:4b (NIV) I always pray with joy.

Philippians 1:18b (NIV) and because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,

Philippians 2:18 (NIV) We are going to study this today…  So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.

Philippians 3:1a (NIV) Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord!

Philippians 4:4 (NIV) Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice

Luke 22:27 (NIV) I am among you as one who serves.

Matthew 20:28 (ESV) The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.

John 13:15 (NIV) I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.

  1. Paul: Citizens of Heaven with joy.

Philippians 2:17 (NIV) But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.

Philippians 2:3 (NIV) Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.

(Romans 12:1-2 NIV) Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship.

  1. Timothy: Citizens of Heaven put .

Philippians 2:19 (NIV) I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you.

Philippians 2:20 (NIV) I have no one else like him, who takes a genuine interest in your welfare.

Philippians 2:21 (NIV) For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 6:33 (NIV) But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Philippians 2:22-24 (NIV) But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel. 23 I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me. 24 And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon.

  1. Epaphroditus: Citizens of Heaven are willing to .

Philippians 2:25-26 (NIV) But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs. For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill.

Philippians 2:27-28 (NIV) Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. 28 Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety.

Philippians 2:3-4 (NLT) Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.
