EVER WONDER about the holy spirit

  • Who is the Holy Spirit?

“During my growing up years… I was taught to be careful, to study Him from a doctrinal distance but not to enter into any of the realms of the supernatural working or to tolerate the possibility of such… Today, I regret that. I have lived long enough and ministered broadly enough to realize that flying closer to the flame is not only possible, it is precisely what God wants.” – Chuck Swindoll, Flying Closer to the Flame

Like Jesus, He has the characteristics of God and a person.

The Holy Spirit is a person.

He is eternal. Hebrews 9:14
He was involved with creation. Genesis 1:1-2
He thinks. Acts 15:28
He speaks. Acts 1:16
He leads. Romans 8:14
He loves. Romans 15:30
He can be grieved. Ephesians 4:30

  • What is He like?

John 14:16

The word “another” means “of the same kind.”

The Holy Spirit is just like Jesus (Romans 8:9; Acts 16:7) and just like God (Romans 8:14).

Advocate in Greek (paraakletos) means “one called alongside.” He is a counselor, a comforter, and an encourager

His character is the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5)

  • What does He do?

He guides us into Truth. John 16:13-15
He nourishes our soul. John 7:38-40
He gives us boldness. Acts 4:31
He sets us free. Romans 8:1-2
He gives us peace. Romans 8:6
He empowers us to point people to Jesus. Acts 1:8
He defeats our sinful nature. Romans 8:5-9
He fills us with hope and joy. Romans 15:13
He intercedes for us. Romans 8:26
He gives us a prayer language. Acts 2:4

Romans 8:5-6,9; Acts 2:4; Acts 2:39; Romans 8:26

He brings renewal. Titus 3:5
He gives Spiritual Gifts. 1 Corinthians 12
He creates unity. Ephesians 4:3
He transforms us into the image of Christ. 2 Corinthians 3:18
He reveals the deep things of God. 1 Corinthians 2:10-15

Ephesians 5:18

He draws people to Him. John 3:6
