WHAT IS BIBLICAL FAITH?

BIBLICAL FAITH is a confident assurance that comes by (1) looking and (2) looking which results in a conviction that leads to action.

Faith proves on God.

Genesis 4:3-5

Faith prioritizes with God.

Genesis 5:21-24

SMALL GROUP QUESTIONS:

Read Hebrews 11:1. What is faith? Describe a real life example of faith in your own life. How have you shown faith this week?

Why is the book of Hebrews called the roll call of faith? Give examples of Bible characters that stepped out in faith. Share examples of people you know with a reputation for faith.

The book of Hebrews was apparently written to Hebrew Christians. These Christians had a history of Judaism with the attached importance of ceremonial observances. Faith in Jesus has impacted their lives. Contrast their struggles in this new faith with your own.

What does the phrase “by faith” mean to you?

Read Hebrews 11:6. Without faith it is impossible to please God. If we are to draw near to him we must believe. Give examples of what it means to you to draw near to him in faith and belief.

What did you learn about this week’s character (Abraham, Moses, Rahab, or Abel) that was new to you?

As each specific character is mentioned in Hebrews, the Old Testament is referenced. Find the Old Testament reference and read it in its original context. How does this character remind you of Jesus?

Read Hebrews 11:7. Noah obeyed God in reverent fear. How do you relate to this obedience in your own walk?

Read Hebrews 11:11. Sarah considered Him faithful who had promised. How would you relate His faithfulness to a new believer?

Which person in the Bible (other than Jesus) helps you understand how to show faith in God during challenging circumstances?

What are some things in your life that you have put greater faith and trust in than God?

Describe a circumstance in your life in which you struggled to have faith in God.

When has someone else’s attitude of faith brought joy or peace into your own life?

What are some ways we can teach our children, grandchildren, and other young people in our life about faith?
