Demon Shadows

Mark 5:1-5 (NLT)

Today we are going to look at an eerie story about the dark world. It involves demons. Before we get into our story I think it’s important for us to understand that demons exist. That there is an invisible dark world.

What does this story teach us about demons and the dark world?

  1. Demons hate humanity and are on a mission to destroy our lives.
    1. John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…
  2. Demons are terrified of Jesus and the kingdom of God.
    1. Mark 5:6-10
  3. When light meets darkness light extinguishes the darkness.
    1. Mark 5:11-14
    2. John 1:4-5 The word, (Jesus) gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
  4. Sadly, many people prefer to live in the shadows.
    1. Mark 5:15-17
    2. There are many today who want the blessings of God without embarrassing the ways of God.
    3. Mark 5:18-20

Let’s finish this message with some demon shadows Q&A

  • How about a fortune teller? Is there anything wrong with that?
    • According to the Bible, yes! The Bible has much to say about spiritual mediums, witches, fortune tellers, etc.
    • 2 Corinthians 11:14 for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. What seems good, usually it starts that way, eventually takes you down a path that won’t end well.
  • How can a fortune teller know about the future?
    • Act 16, Paul and Silas.
    • Can Demons read our minds?
      • No but they have a good idea of what we are thinking.
    • Do people still get demon possessed?
      • Yes!
    • How does a person get demon possessed?
      • If you play with fire you will eventually get burned. If you dabble in the dark world you open yourself up to being possessed.
    • Should we be afraid of demons?
      • No, not if you are a Christ follower.
    • Can Demons mess with us?
      • Yes, but we can take authority over them. It involves prayer and I would suggest spiritual support.
    • Why doesn’t God want us to seek answers outside of him?
      • Do you really want to know the future? You might think you do but God wants us to trust him.
