Run Like A Savage

Run Like a Savage

2 Samuel 18:23 BSB  – “No matter what, I want to run!” he replied. “Then run!” Joab told him. So Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain and outran the Cushite.

Savage = tenacious endurance, laser focused, fierce resolve

“No Matter What, I Want to Run!”

What’s going to have to happen (in your life) to get you to this point?

Isaiah 40:29-31 NKJV – 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,And the young men shall utterly fall,  31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Which one are you?

“If I can’t win, I won’t run.”
or…
“If I won’t run, I can’t win.”

“Then Run!”

What kind of news do you have the reputation of carrying?

2 Samuel 18:22 – 22 …And Joab said, “Why will you run, my son, seeing that you will have no reward for the news?”

2 Samuel 18:27-28 – 27 The watchman said, “I think the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok.” And the king said, “He is a good man and comes with good news.” 28 Then Ahimaaz cried out to the king, “All is well.” And he bowed before the king with his face to the earth and said, “Blessed be the LORD your God, who has delivered up the men who raised their hand against my lord the king.”

Who is getting in the way of you running your race?

Galatians 5:7 AMP  – 7 You were running [the race] well; who has interfered and prevented you from obeying the truth?

Trusted leaders that you allow to speak into your life will chart the course and open doors for your life that you never would have access to otherwise.

Galatians 2:2, 9 ESV – 2 I went up because of a revelation and set before them (though privately before those who seemed influential) the gospel that I proclaim among the Gentiles, in order to make sure I was not running or had not run in vain.

9 and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the Jews.

“Run & Outrun!”

2 Samuel 18:23 BSB  – So Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain and outran the Cushite.

One who runs merely out of duty will always be outran by the one who runs for delight.

“I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel his pleasure.” – from 1981 movie “Chariots of Fire”

Your race isn’t only about… you.

2 Kings 4:26Run out to meet her and ask, ‘Are you all right? Is your husband all right? Is your son all right?” And she answered, “Everything’s all right.”

Who can you pick up? Who can you help run their race?

Running like a Savage means having tenacious endurance, laser focus & fierce resolve as you pursue your purpose.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 NLT  – 24 Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! 25 All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. 26 So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. 27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Discussion Questions:

1.) What was your biggest takeaway from today’s message?

2.) What race are you currently running in this season? What obstacles have you endured and God has helped you overcome?

3.) Who can you currently help run their race? Who have you helped?
